2023 Double Circumnavigation of UK Non Stop
in support of Autism on the Water
This year we plan to embark on what I’m assured is a first historical sail around Britain by doing a double Circumnavigation of the UK, first anticlockwise and turning around at the bass rock to circumnavigate clockwise. The expedition will cover over 5,500 nautical miles sailing. We are raising funds and awareness for Autism on the Water.
The Journey Begins
The Bass Rock, or simply the Bass, is an island in the outer part of the Firth of Forth in the east of Scotland. Approximately 2 kilometres offshore, and 5 kilometres north-east of North Berwick, it is a steep-sided volcanic rock, 107 metres at its highest point, and is home to a large colony of gannets.
We will encounter all the weather variations you would expect in UK waters: from strong westerlies in the North Sea with short choppy waves, to the sunny South Coast with its ‘fluffy’ sailing. There is also the majestical west coast which is always a pleasure and ever-changing environment. Then not to forget the north which is spectacular in weather and in scenery. During this expedition we plan to include additional offshore fun sailing out to the Faroe Islands – a place that is like time forgot and has been on my bucket list for some time now.
